Professional Wheelbuilding
No components on the bicycle have as much of an impact on ride quality, performance and aesthetics as the wheels. There's magic that happens when the perfect hub, rim, spokes and nipples are thoughtfully selected and meticulously assembled.
Perhaps you are working on a dream build for your new frame or upgrading your current bike. We are here to help you through the process to bring your new wheelset to life. It's a process that involves careful thought and years of experience to get perfect. There are so many choices it can be overwhelming. Our wheelbuilder, Brent, has been building wheels professionally since 1995. If you are interested in bringing your dream wheelset to life here's how it works.

Initial consultation- This can be done in person or over the phone. This is where we gather the information about the bike and the rider. Things that need to be considered are the frame and fork measurements, rider weight, riding style, color scheme, climate, past wheel issues and budget. You may already know exactly what you want which can also be discussed during this first step.

Presentation of options- Once we have a clear picture of what bike the wheels are going on and who is using them, we begin a very thoughtful process of selecting hubs, rims, spokes nipples and lacing pattern to deliver the best result for the customer. We will generally present 3 options here in a good, better and best format. This process typically takes 1-2 weeks from the initial consultation.

Customer selection and deposit- This is where you will digest the information and make your selection. We are certainly available to answer any questions you may have to help you make the best choice. Once you have made your selection a deposit is taken to cover the cost of the components (you may also pay in full if you like). An ETA will be given, and we will keep you updated through the process.
The Build- Once all of the components are received, we begin the build. This is a very careful process that is best done unrushed. I have worked in the fast paced-high pressure environment of retail bicycle shops for over 3 decades and have certainly learned that this is not the best way to complete a nice wheelset. Our build process typically takes 2-3 weeks from arrival of all components. This gives us ample time to inspect the components, lubricate and prep the spokes and nipples, lace the wheels, bring the wheels up to tension, true the wheels, relieve stress, re true and appy tubeless tape. There's a bit more to it than all that but you get the idea.

Delivery- The fun part! Your dream wheelset is ready. You'll be notified of completion, and we'll set up a time for you to pick up your new wheels and get them fitted to your bike. In the event you are out of the area and have worked with us over the phone we will set up shipping at this time. The balance on the build and any shipping costs are paid at this time and now it's up to you. Get out there and enjoy your wheels!
